The Homestay

Where Nature Feels Like Home.

We built Shali Homestay on a shoulder of Shali Tibba, where the road ends and the forest begins. Cedar and deodar on three sides, an open valley on the fourth, and clouds that walk through the garden most afternoons of the monsoon.

It is a drive-in property — park at your door, unload, and let the mountain take over. Inside: hand-carved cedar, deep beds, hot water, and windows framed on the Himalaya. Outside: trails, a fire pit, and a sky with no city in it.

Why guests choose Shali

Eight reasons people drive three hours up a mountain and then refuse to leave.

01

Cloud touch experience

Monsoon clouds rise through the garden and pass between the cabins. You stand inside weather.

02

360° mountain views

Ridge after ridge to the horizon, with the high snow line visible on clear winter mornings.

03

Drive-in access

Metalled road to the gate and parking at your door — rare at this altitude. No uphill trek with luggage.

04

Deodar forest walks

Soft trails straight from the lawn into old cedar, with moss, birdsong and no traffic.

05

Bonfire & camping

Fire pit every clear evening, and luxury tents pitched on the upper meadow in season.

06

Stargazing skies

No light pollution for miles. The Milky Way is a normal Tuesday here.

07

Organic kitchen

Himachali home cooking — rajma, siddu, orchard fruit — from the valley below, not a supply truck.

08

Built to leave it be

Local stone and timber, solar water, spring water, minimal plastic, waste carried down.

Our story

A house at the end of the road

Shali Tibba is one of the nearest true peaks to Shimla — and for years the only way to know it was to walk it.

Our family has farmed apples on this slope for three generations. When the road finally reached the shoulder below the summit, we did not build a hotel. We built the house we always wanted to come home to after a day on the ridge — thick walls, local cedar, big windows, a fire that is always lit by dusk.

Guests arrive expecting a view. What surprises them is the quiet, and how fast the mountain changes: clear valley at breakfast, a wall of white cloud by two, stars by nine. We keep the property small on purpose so that all of it stays yours.

Whatever you came for — a summit push, a long sleep, a table for four under the deodar — we will point you at it and then leave you alone.

Sleep on the meadow, under everything

Four canvas tents on timber decks above the house. Real beds, hot water at the wash block, and a fire that runs until the last person gives up.

How a camp night goes

You arrive to tents already pitched and lanterns already lit. Tea at five, fire at seven, dinner off the coals, and someone always brings a speaker or a guitar. By ten the valley below has gone dark and the sky takes over.

Getting here

01

By car

Shimla → Sunni/Basantpur road → ridge road to the property gate. Any hatchback makes it in dry weather; an SUV is kinder in monsoon.

02

By train

Kalka–Shimla toy train to Shimla, then a two-hour taxi. We can arrange the pickup if you send your arrival time.

03

By air

Jubbarhatti (Shimla) for short hops, Chandigarh for everything else — about five hours by road from there.

04

Last stretch

Phone signal thins out for the final few kilometres. Download the pin before you leave Shimla and drive in daylight if you can.
